KC Creepfest

Thanks to everyone who participated in the first-ever KC CreepFest in Westport, especially our partners and sponsors Tivoli Cinemas, Westport Coffeehouse Theatre, McCoy’s Public House, Westport Regional Business League, Kansas City Women in Film & Television, Independent Film Coalition - Kansas City, Lights On Kansas City, and Outpost Worldwide production company in Lenexa.

Our fundraising efforts for Harvester’s Community Food Network (based on Westport Coffeehouse Theatre ticket sales, combined with a patron’s donation and the Mr. Fish band’s donation) totaled $100 plus some canned goods. At Harvester’s $1 buys 5 meals, which means we were able to raise funds for 500 meals!

Betsy Barratt, a Kansas City artist will be exhibiting her large scale paintings at the Westport Coffeehouse Theatre during the KC CreepFest. Her work was recently on display at an art show/independent horror film screening at the Alcott Art Center called ZOMBIE PROM OF THE DEAD. Check out the paintings on Thursday and Friday, October 29 and 30 at WCH Theatre!

Missouri and Kansas filmmakers submitted some original, creative films for the first KC CreepFest Short Horror Film Contest! Thank you to Filmmaker Bobby Thompson and Actor Jeph Scanlon for being our professional judges, and to the Avila film school students for pre-screening the contest entries.

During the award presentations at the Tivoli Cinema on Friday, October 30 at 6:45 p.m., four of our finalists will each receive a $25 gift card (from businesses like Border’s, AMC, Sally Beauty Supply), and the first place winner will receive $100 in rental equipment donated by Lights On Kansas City. The first place film will screen along with the Bonnie & Clyde vs. Dracula program that begins at 6:45.

Every film will screen twice during the Festival as part of the KC CreepFest Contest programs at the Westport CoffeeHouse Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m. and on Friday, Oct. 30 at 4:00 p.m. Tickets for this program cost $6 or $5 with a donation of 4 canned goods for Harvesters.

McCoy’s Public House at 4057 Pennsylvania will host the after party for the KC CreepFest throughout the night on Friday, October 30. The McCoy’s menu will include Bonnie & Clyde vs. Dracula-related food and drink specials, including the hand-crafted Dracula Red beer and the Bonnie & Clyde Burger. There will be a special premiere of the film 72 Musicians, a documentary film on local independent rock bands, projected onto a screen at McCoy’s patio on the corner of Westport Road and Pennsylvania. Kansas City band Late Night Rendez-Vous will perform at 10:30 p.m. inside McCoy’s. The McCoy’s event is hosted by Shawn Edwards, film reviewer for Fox 4 News, and is sponsored by Lenexa-based production company Outpost Worldwide.

The short horror film contest entries are in and have been delivered to the judges! We have a variety of indie horror films and music, including a “how to” seminar on Thursday at the Westport CoffeeHouse, a concert by Mr. Fish, a test screening of a film-in-progress, classic B-movies, and some fine films created right here in Kansas and Missouri!

The Grand Prize for the KC CreepFest Short Horror Film Contest will be a $100 certificate for rental equipment donated by Lights On Kansas City that the winning filmmaker can use for her/his next independent film project!
If you are a Kansas or Missouri filmmaker, submit your short horror film (5-minutes or less) by the October 10 deadline. Prizes will be awarded for the top 5 films, and the first place winner will be announced as part of the 6:45 p.m. Bonnie & Clyde vs. Dracula program at the Tivoli Cinema in Westport on October 30.
